Hello

My name is Leah and I am very happy that you have made it to my website, it was a long time in the coming!!

Perhaps we've met before in a class or on a retreat in which case it's great to have you here.  If we've never met before then I hope we will one day somewhere on this amazing planet.

My Story

I have been teaching yoga for almost 20 years after training with the Inner Yoga Trust in 2001. Like many people I initially took my yoga teacher training to deepen my understanding and allow more time for my practice but had no intention of teaching. At the time I was working as a human rights and refugee lawyer for a big charity in inner London and used my yoga training to help me stay grounded and relieve the stress levels which at times would become intense.

I recall feeling very held by my training and supported by the sangha (spiritual community) of my fellow students on this path of self discovery which was both awe-inspiring and challenging.

Although it was never my intention to teach yoga I did in fact begin teaching my colleagues (a bunch of very stressed out lawyers living 99% of the time in their heads!). This began my teaching journey and has led me to change my life considerably, taking the journey from my head down and into the body, a journey I so needed to take – and am still on!

After giving up my legal career and spending some time abroad I returned to the UK, trained in the ‘Yoga for the Special Child’ programme and began teaching and working as the training coordinator at the Special Yoga Centre, a centre which specialised in yoga for children with special needs in London. I immersed myself in exploring yoga with these children and young adults for a good few years and continue to work with this population privately.

In 2011 I undertook some further training in the Krishnamacharia tradition in the UK and India and qualified as an advanced teacher with the BWY (British Wheel of Yoga). Over the years I have also studied with Donna Farhi, Tias Little, Mathew Sanford, Angela Farmer and Fiona Agombar with whom I have trained and co-taught retreats and training programmes.

For the last 10 years I have been teaching yoga classes, individual sessions and retreats specialising in working with people with chronic illness including fatigue conditions (ME/CFS) cancer, MS, arthritis etc as well as those with anxiety disorders, PTSD and complex trauma. I am especially interested in working with populations who would not usually be able to access yoga and taught yoga to refugees and asylum seeking women for ‘Ourmala’, a charity offering free yoga and other support services to this client group between 2014 – 2019.

In addition to the many and varied influences I have encountered on my journey thus far I also weave in teachings from other spiritual traditions and teachers including Adyashanti, Eckhart Tolle and Tara Brach.

In tandem with teaching, I guide in depth training courses for Yoga Campus focusing on how to best support students with stress, burn-out and fatigue conditions including Long Covid.

Body work:

I have always been interested in the body, my body. bodies in general and the incredible capacity they have to adapt, survive and heal. I began learning more about the body when I studied yoga in more depth and then qualified in holistic & sports massage then kahuna (Hawaiian massage) and reflexology.  More recently in 2017 I qualified as a cranial sacral therapist which informs all of my bodywork as well as my approach to movement & stillness.

Other stuff:

I recently contributed to the book ‘Yoga therapy for Stress, Burn-out and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome’ by Fiona Agombar

which is available from all major outlets. You can find out more information about the book and the process of bringing it into being in my blog.
